HISTORY IN SEPANG: Kaito Toba Wins Round 5 as Hafizh Syahrin Secures 2026 ASB1000 Championship!

MALAYSIA — High drama, blistering speeds, and historic celebrations took over the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit for Round 5 of the 2026 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship! Japan’s Kaito Toba (FORTY FORGED ASIA RACING TEAM) put on a masterclass to claim a dominant race victory, but the day belonged to local hero Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah.

By bringing his JDT RACING TEAM machine home in a calculated second place, “El Pescao” mathematically secured the 2026 ASB1000 Overall Championship title on home soil with a full round to spare!

How The Drama Unfolded

The race exploded into life with Keito Abe taking the holeshot, but the lead swapped hands rapidly as Nakarin Atiratphuvapat spearheaded an aggressive early charge.

By lap 3, Kaito Toba laid down the gauntlet. Dropping a staggering 2’06.509s benchmark, Toba snatched the lead and never looked back. He continued to shatter the timing screens, setting the race’s fastest lap of 2’06.128s on lap 7 to build a dominant cushion. Meanwhile, early championship casualties saw Adam Norrodin crash out and Mohammad Adenanta Putra retire with a mechanical failure.

Behind the runaway leader, a fierce battle ignited for the podium. Hafizh Syahrin locked horns with main title rival Keito Abe in an intense, corner-by-corner war. After making a decisive move on lap 5 to break into the podium positions, Hafizh sliced past Nakarin on lap 6 to claim second. Recognizing the ultimate prize was within reach, Hafizh rode a masterfully tactical final few laps to cross the line safely in second, sparking wild celebrations across Malaysia!

🎙️ Champion’s Corner: In Hafizh Syahrin’s Words

On the Ultimate Triumph:
“I really want to thank everyone involved in this project. Most of all, thank you to our boss, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Crown Prince of Johor, who has trusted me for three years now. In this third year, we made several changes to myself and within the team, and everyone played their part.”

On the Intense Track Battle:
“The race was so tough out there. Battling Keito mid-race was intense. Every time I tried to pass him in the corners, he fought back hard, and that allowed Kaito to pull a gap ahead. Around the middle of the race, I had to think about the championship.”

On the Tactical Masterstroke & Dedication:
“I knew I had the speed to catch Kaito, but I didn’t need an all-out battle with him. The real mission was to finish in front of Keito. Our approach was simple: if you can win, go win, but if not, make sure you stay ahead of Keito. We rode a smart, calculated race, and we pulled it off.

Thank you so much to all the fans who came out, to Team Principal Steven Tan, Team Manager Razmin, and the whole crew. A massive thank you to all the fans in Johor and throughout Malaysia. And finally, this is dedicated to my late brother, Farres. We never forget you.”
