Hicom Yamaha Shah Alam: A Brief History
1983 — Established
The Hicom Yamaha plant in Shah Alam was established as part of a strategic partnership between Hicom Holdings, Yamaha Motor Japan, Hong Leong Industries, and Lembaga Tabung Haji.
1985 — Operations Begin
The plant officially commenced operations, marking the beginning of its manufacturing activities in Malaysia.
Manufacturing Focus
The facility was primarily involved in the production of Yamaha motorcycle engines and related components, supporting Yamaha’s motorcycle manufacturing operations in the country.
The establishment of the Shah Alam plant marked an important chapter in the development of Malaysia’s motorcycle manufacturing industry, bringing together Japanese motorcycle technology and local industrial capabilities.
