MODENAS 118 Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI)

The Modenas 118 EFI was a model that stood apart from the company’s better-known CT and Kriss families, arriving with a new name and a different identity.

Introduced in 2013, the 118 EFI carried a manufacturer-recommended retail price of RM4,755 at the time. It was powered by an engine producing 7.7 hp of maximum power and featured a 4.3-litre fuel tank.

What made the 118 EFI particularly significant was its Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system. It was the first Malaysian underbone moped to be equipped with fuel injection, marking an important step forward in local motorcycle technology.

The timing is also interesting. While the Yamaha Lagenda 115Z Fi was officially launched on 9 September 2013, the Modenas 118 EFI had already been introduced earlier, in July 2013.

This made the 118 EFI an interesting milestone in the evolution of Malaysia’s underbone motorcycle market, arriving at a time when fuel-injection technology was beginning to replace conventional carburettor systems on small-capacity motorcycles.
