SUZUKI A100 – The Postman’s Motorcycle

Remember the Suzuki A100? The Postman’s Motorcycle of an Earlier Era.

Long before today’s modern underbone motorcycles became the familiar choice for postal deliveries, Suzuki A100 motorcycles were once a common sight on Malaysian roads, serving as the trusted workhorses of Pos Malaysia during the 1970s and into the early 1980s.

For postal workers, the A100 was more than just a means of transportation. It was a practical machine used day after day to deliver letters and parcels, travelling through towns, villages and rural roads across the country. Eventually, the A100 was phased out and replaced by newer, more modern underbone motorcycles.

Introduced by Suzuki around 1967, the A100 was powered by a 98cc two-stroke engine featuring Suzuki’s Rotary Valve induction system. It was paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and hand-operated clutch, giving the lightweight motorcycle a distinctly traditional riding character.

The A100 remained in production until 1976, but its story did not end there. Examples continued to serve in various roles, including postal delivery, long after production had ceased.

Today, seeing an old Suzuki A100 can bring back memories of a different era — when the arrival of the postman on a small two-stroke motorcycle was simply part of everyday life.
