KTM 390 Adventure X — All-Road Performance, Without Going Too Extreme
The 2026 KTM 390 Adventure X represents a new direction for KTM’s compact adventure motorcycle platform, combining the aggressive styling and lightweight character associated with KTM with a more road-oriented chassis setup.
At its heart is KTM’s latest-generation LC4c 398.7 cc single-cylinder engine, producing 45 PS and 39 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed transmission. KTM has also revised the engine and gearbox for smoother acceleration and improved real-world usability.
Where the Adventure X differs significantly from the more hardcore Adventure R is in its chassis configuration. The X uses 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, a combination that gives it a stronger road-touring bias while still allowing riders to venture onto gravel roads and less demanding trails. Suspension travel remains a substantial 200 mm front and rear, with WP APEX hardware at both ends.
The motorcycle also maintains KTM’s relatively lightweight philosophy. It weighs 165 kg without fuel and around 176 kg fully fuelled, while its 14-litre tank gives it a useful range for longer-distance riding. Ground clearance is 232 mm, and the seat height is listed at 825 mm on KTM Malaysia’s specification page.
More road-biased than the Adventure R
The distinction becomes clearer when placed beside the 390 Adventure R. The R gets 21/18-inch wheels, 230 mm suspension travel and 272 mm ground clearance, whereas the X’s 19/17-inch wheel combination and 200 mm suspension travel are better suited to riders spending more time on tarmac while retaining genuine all-road capability.
Braking comes from Bybre, with a 320 mm front disc and 240 mm rear disc. KTM also equips the X with Offroad ABS, allowing the rider to retain greater braking freedom when moving onto loose surfaces.
For Malaysia, the 2026 KTM 390 Adventure X is priced at RM29,300, excluding road tax, insurance and registration. KTM Malaysia also lists a four-year manufacturing-defect warranty for its 2026 motorcycles.
The 390 Adventure X sits in an interesting middle ground — more versatile than a conventional road bike, but less extreme than a dedicated off-road adventure machine. With 45 PS, relatively low weight, 19/17-inch wheels and 200 mm of suspension travel, its character is very much geared towards riders who want one motorcycle capable of handling daily commuting, highway touring, twisty roads and occasional light-to-moderate off-road riding.
